Advantages of a Shelter Plan

It simplifies the process of getting started:

  • We take care of the unfamiliar tasks. We get the permits and licenses, and provide the building and workers needed for the operation. Our knowledge of Mexican laws and ways of doing business avoids problems in setting up the manufacturing facility and getting it operating on time.

We get you the right personnel:

  • Our familiarity with the local labor market makes it easier to attract and choose the right type of personnel and to utilize government supported training programs for plant workers.

We take care of imports, exports and Customs requirements:

  • Our years of experience importing goods into Mexico and exporting products back to the United States, and our knowledge of Mexican and U.S. Customs regulations minimize the costs and risks of bringing finished goods back to the United States.

You don't have to incorporate in Mexico:

  • Shelter clients do not have to incorporate Mexican subsidiaries or otherwise establish a legal presence in Mexico, because each operates as a division of our shelter. Clients avoid the costs and headaches of hiring, training and supervising a staff to perform the administrative tasks handled by our shelter.
  • You are not subject to Mexican income taxes:

    • Shelter clients avoid creating what the U.S./Mexican tax treaty calls a "permanent establishment" which would make them subject to Mexican income taxes on "transfer" prices of goods exported from Mexico. Independent, non-shelter, operations have to incorporate, which automatically makes them "permanent establishments" and subjects them to Mexican income taxes.

You will have lower capital requirements:

    • Shelter clients enjoy lower capital requirements than independent operations, because they do not have to invest in the manufacturing facility and we charge for all labor and services in arrears. They do not even have to open and fund a Mexican bank account.

Your plant manager can concentrate on production:

    • Because the shelter handles support functions such as personnel, accounting, payroll, transportation, purchasing, building maintenance and security, plant managers are relieved of administrative burdens and can concentrate on production.

Your costs will be known and controlled:

    • Shelter costs are known in advance and controlled by contract. Shelter clients avoid the need for, and the open-ended costs of, consultants, accountants and attorneys which would be needed to incorporate and set up an independent operation.
